Physics education for the 21st century -
understanding and responding to the challenges - FYS 21

Foucaults Pendel

The project FYS21 is a partnership between the Institute of Physics, NTNU and the School laboratory at Department of Physics at the University of Oslo. Per Morten Kind represents NTNU and Ellen K. Henriksen and Carl Angell represent the University of Oslo. Øystein Guttersrud is working with the project as PhD student.

The main goal is to enhance the understanding of how physics at upper secondary level can be developed to meet the needs for new competencies relevant for the 21st century. Specifically, we address the following aims:

- To develop an understanding of the challenges for physics education at the beginning of the 21st century.
- To identify possible pathways for physics courses at upper secondary level.
- To gain insight into classroom processes and student learning and attitude outcomes of new physics curriculum elements.

Ten upper secondary schools in the Trondheim and the Oslo region respectively, are connected to the project.

The project outline is available here.
