Miljøgeologi og geohazards er ett av fem forskningsområder ved Institutt for geologi. Her finner du en liste over noen av prosjektetene innen dette området: Groundwater residence times and contaminant transport in the Gardemoen
aquifer The Gardermoen aquifer has been object for extensive research in recent
years, however the efforts have been focused on the upper part of the
aquifer. There is limited knowledge on deep groundwater at Gardermoen
in particular, and in Norway in general. Especially regarding renewal
of the groundwater resources, and long term effects of pollution on groundwater
quality. The existing scientific work on the aquifer system, and installations
already present there, makes it an excellent site for closing this gap
of knowledge, by drilling and sampling deep groundwater. Dating these
water samples, combined with chemical analyses will yield data on water
quality and corresponding age, as well as groundwater velocities, enabling
estimates of risks for - and effects of - groundwater pollution due to
future loads of potential contaminants. By implementing previous research
in the area, we will calibrate regional groundwater flow and transport
models and develop methods for sampling BAT-wells for noble gases and
3H+3Hetri. This dating method has only been tested to a limited extent
in Norway, but a few sample analyses indicate that the method is highly
applicable. The project will contribute to improve tools(models) and methods(data
acquisition), thus enabling sustainable groundwater management and increasing
water safety. The formation of marine impact craters In 1998 the central peak of the Mjølnir Crater was drilled and a 121 m long drill core was taken. This core is now studied in great detail in order to understand the formation of the Mjølnir impact and marine impacts in general. The core represents unique material and forms, together with geophysical and geological information from the area, the base for this project. In this study we hope to be able to determine the type of impactor, temperatures and pressure, as well as time of impact in great detail. It will also be of great importance to model the impact and better understand the processes of cratering along with e.g. the ejecta distribution, tsunami formation and the impact on life. |
