Petroleumsgeofag er ett av fem forskningsområder ved Institutt for geologi. Her finner du en liste over noen av prosjektetene innen dette området: Mechanical compaction of sand and sandstones - implications for reservoir
quality and compressibility The behaviour of sands with different grain size distribution and mineralogical
compositions under large stress compaction and under large shear deformation
have been studied using the high pressure oedometer and triaxial equipment
at the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI). Stresses up to 50MPa equivalent
to 4-5km burial depth have been used in these experiments, and grain fracturing
in reservoir rocks have been studied using cathodoluminescence and in
the SEM. Petroleum geochemistry projects The project is aimed at establishing a method for identification of alternative source rocks. It will also support teaching and research in Petroleum Geology at the University of Oslo. This includes teaching of advanced courses and supervision of MSc students. This is a part of a co-operation between GFZ Postdam (Dr Rolando de Primeo) and University of Newcastle (NRG- prof. Steve Larter). This project was funded by Saga petroleum and was later transferred to Norsk Hydro. East African rift valleys, possible North Sea analogs The interplay between tectonics and sedimentation has been the aim of this study, where both field investigations and detailed mineralogical and sedimentological analyses have been done. In both the studied sections from the Lunde Formation and the Tanzanian Karoo the sedimentological and sedimetpetrological developments will be studied. Kinetics of Oil generation (Professor II Organic geochemistry)
This project is part of a co-operation between industry and academia supporting teaching and research in basin modelling particularly in the aspects which include petroleum geochemistry. The project was initiated by Saga Petroleum and was later taken over by Norsk Hydro. The project was redefined at the request of Norsk Hydro to include more general aspects of sediment compaction and basin modelling. Prof. Brian Horsfield, formerly at (KFA) now at GFZ (Postdam) has been linked to this project as adjunct professor (Professor II). 3D seismic prospecting methods Through many years of research within the field of earthquake seismology, members of the geophysics group have gained a considerable experience in analysis and modelling of 3-component recordings of seismic waves. This competence is now being applied to seismic exploration methods. During the recent years there has been an increasing interest in the use of 3-component ocean bottom seismometers, first of all in connection with reservoir monitoring. This kind of sensors makes a complete recording of both compressional and shear waves feasible, and thus gives a more complete picture of the physical parameters of the material, including its Poissons ratio, anisotropy, porosity and fracturing. They are of large practical interest in connection with the flow pattern in a reservoir. Funded by UiO and Norsk Hydro ASA. Cretaceous shale facies on the Mid-Norwegian shelf The mineralogical and geochemical composition of fine-grained sediments can be used in studying their provenances, depositional facies and diagenetic evolution. This information can also be of value in stratigraphical correlation. In this project Cretaceous shale dominated formations from the Mid Norwegian shelf are studied mineralogicaly and geochemicaly. We will characterize their formation and diagenetic evolution and the possibilities for using this information in detailed stratigraphical correlations. Bassenginnfylling av triasbassenger i nordlige Nordsjøen;
Skottland og midt-norsk sokkel Diagenetic processes and reservoir geology The principle objective of this project is to understand the processes that change the properties of reservoir rocks during burial in sedimentary basins. This includes analyses of reservoir rocks from oil fields, particularly from Haltenbanken and the Northern North Sea, and also compiling published and unpublished data. These data will be used to quantify the contributions from mechanical and chemical compaction and establish more general models for compaction of reservoir rocks as a function of increasing burial. områder som bidrar til RWE-DEAs prosjekt "Agnes" The role of faults for hydrocarbon migration and overpressure build
up in basins and controlling factors for biodegradation and gas to oil
ratios of entrapped petroleum These goals are approached by having the candidate model several of our existing case histories on SR maturation, petroleum genesis, migration and accumulation, biodegradation and dysmigration using state of the art basin modelling tools such as PetroMod, Petrel and PVT-SIM, and by this approach also to have him develop his own model on petroleum migration and overpressure build up off Mid-Norway. Porosity distributions in reservoir rocks and their seismic expressions
This is a study of the properties of reservoir rocks and their velocities
as measured by well logs and from seismic data. The purpose is to understand
relationships between the primary sediment composition (facies and provenance),
burial diagenesis and velocities. The aim is to improve the prediction
of rock properties such as porosity from seismic data. The project include
petrographic analyses of cores compared with log velocities, often including
both P- and S-wave velocities. |
