Distributed Electronic Health RecordsThe research presented on this web-site is part of the The Medical informatics & telemedicine (MI&T) group at the Department of Computer Science, University of Tromsø. The work on electronic health records (EHR) started in 1998 with the Elvira project at the Norwegian Centre for Telemedicine. Elvira was the answer to the management of most patient and health information problems. Even though Elvira wasn't implemented, a lot of knowledge on EHRs had been acquired and several interesting research problems had been uncovered. One of the problems was how we could integrate heterogeneous EHRs into a common EHR (DiPato). Another problem was how we can locate the growing health information on the Internet and include this information in EHRs (PaSent). The DiPato project aims at integrating electronic health record (EHR). The project was started in 2000. The project is partly based on the results from the Virtual Secretary project at Department of Computer Science, University of Tromsø, and the Elvira project at the Norwegian Centre of telemedicine. From March 2001 the project received funding for a research scholar (grant nr 142162/320) from the Research Council of Norway. In the PaSent project, which is another project that grew out from the Virtual Secretary and DiPato projects, we focus on constructing an electronic patient advisor. In the beginning, we saw PaSent as a tool for EHRs, but more recently, PaSent has been considered more as a universal tool. In 2002, we included CSCW-tool (Computer Supported Cooperative Work) for EHRs on our list of interests. In 2003, the EHR activity has been extended to patient diaries. Several prototypes have been constructed. The GRO-project "Intelligent pillboxes" has been linked with the EHR activity. The goal is to be able to automatically control the medication from an EHR. In 2004-2005, the focus has been on converging media and CSCW in EHRs.
