The Film Studies

The film studies concentrate on today's systems of mass communication, information and entertainment, and approach cinema and television, fiction and documentaries, in the historical context that makes them possible. The studies examine the role these media has played and play in the culture, and how they communicate. Films and television broadcasts from different eras and places is the subject for analysis and critical discussion. There are two parallel film studies:

  1. Film/Television/Video, which is practical/theoretical, and
  2. Film Studies, which is a theoretical study.

"Film/television/video" is offered at the basic level only, while "Film Studies" is offered on all levels up to Ph.D. However, at the master's degree level there are also two parallel studies, one theoretical and one practical/theoretical study with emphasis on film production. The latter is offered in co-operation with the College of Lillehammer or the College of Volda.
