Instructions for contributors to Symbolae Osloenses
Symbolae Osloenses encourages scholarly contributions on topics related to Greek and Latin texts of all periods. Priority may be given to articles (a) written by scholars attached to Norwegian universities, (b) related to the Oslo papyrus collection or other national text resources, or (c) continuing the discussion from articles previously published in the journal. Offers of main articles for the SO Debate section are invited.
Manuscripts of articles to be considered for publication should be sent to the Editor.
Please apply to the Editor (e-mail: tomas.hagg@krr.uib.no) to receive the full version of our "Instructions to authors". What follows below is just a selection of some important points.
Manuscripts should be submitted in print-out, double-spaced (24 pt) and with an ample left-hand margin, printed on one side of the paper only. Footnotes should appear as endnotes in the print-out, also double-spaced and in full size (12 pt). All pages should be consecutively numbered.
Between title/author and the text of the article, there should be a summary in English (irrespective of the language of the article) of approximately 40-80 words (5-10 lines).
In the preparation of your manuscript, please adopt the following conventions for references, bibliography etc. Supply the full bibliographical references in an alphabetical list to be printed at the end of the article. In the text, use an abbreviated reference consisting of the author's name and the year of publication, followed by page number (etc.), e.g.: "Kraggerud 1985, 27 n. 5," Names of journals etc. should be fully written out, or be abbreviated following the practice of L'Année Philologique. Abbreviations for Greek and Latin texts should follow the practice of The Oxford Classical Dictionary (when applicable). References to classical or medieval works should normally be made in the following form: "Tac. Ann. 14.40.2-3".
Your article will be refereed. If it is accepted for publication, you will be asked to submit a final version on diskette as well as in a new print-out. To facilitate that process, it is imperative that you follow the technical guidelines given in the full version of our "Instructions for authors". Authors will receive 30 offprints free of charge and one copy of the journal volume.
