IT-net-based services
All students must generate their own password. This is done in the self-activation programme. For first-time log-ons the student number and date of birth are used to register via Internet. The only service that you need to go to a study location to get carried out is getting given a student card and a sticker for paid up student registration fee in order to get allocated an IT account and an e-mail account at Bodø University College directly on the Internet.
The following systems/programmes for net-based services are at present in use at BUC:
- Arena
- Classfronter
- e-mail/data account/wireless network(WLAN)
- Ordering group rooms (room reservations)
- The weekly timetable
- Electronic accounts (not password protected)
Password protected services These services are password protected. In order to use these services you need a user name and a password. You user name is the same as your student number which you yourself define when logging on for the first time. Using this user name and password you can access all the net-based services listed below.
If you wish to change your password, you can do this through the ARENA net service.
2.1. ARENA
This service is the main channel for direct communication between you as the student and Bodø University College in study administration matters. Here you can, amongst other things, do the following: change personal information (name, address, telephone number, e-mail address), register for a course of study, notification of course of study, withdrawal from exams, changing password. The ARENA system is at present only available in a Norwegian language version. Work is in progress to develop an English language version.

Classfronter
This is a web-based platform for learning, developed to support teaching, training, and knowledge and information sharing. The service allows you to hand in papers, share information with your fellow students, and receive information relevant for your particular course of study. Today’s?
Today’s or “Dagens” is your start page in Classfronter. The standard layout gives you an overview of new documents and messages in the rooms you have access to. You can adjust the start page to fit your personal preferences.
Rooms?
Classfronter is a virtual school. It is made up of ”classrooms” for each module or study course offered.
Our school has hundreds of rooms, but you will only have access to the rooms necessary for your course of studies – in addition to a few common rooms.
By registering for modules in Arena, you will get access to the corresponding room the following morning.
How to log on?
You will find a link to Arena on Bodø University College’s home pages (www.hibo.no) under the link ”for studenter” in the Norwegian version. Here, you must register your username (your student number) and password.
On the Arena system, you can check and alter personal information (address, phone number, e-mail address, etc.)
You MUST check/alter:
- Personal information
- Register that you attend your modules
- Accept your study plan
Other things you can do in Arena:
- Subject registration
- Exam registration and withdrawal
- Check examination results
PC-pools, e-mail service and wireless network
Access with the same username and password as you use for Arena and Classfronter
You can work almost anywhere on campus with your lap-top computer.
E-mail, Data account, wireless network (WLAN)
All Bodø University College’s students can access the university college’s data net at the student laboratories. In addition you will be given your own e-mail address at the university college (first name, middle name, surname@stud.hibo.no). The university college has a well-developed wireless network (WLAN), so that you can access this wherever you are located on campus.
The wireless network at student flats and on campus is meant for normal internet usage and therefore has limitations with regard to games and web/ftp servers. More information can be found on www.ssib.no – studentboliger-datanett
