The project "StudData - Database for Studies of Recruitment and Qualification in the Professions", is one of the foundations for the research activities at the Centre for the Study of Professions.

The purpose of the database is to stimulate to and make possible comparative research on professional education and practices across different professional programmes and institutions.

Central issues adressed:

  • Why young people choose vocational studies
  • How education affects future working life
  • How careers vary between different professions
  • How institutional characteristics affect professional identity and emotional exhaustion
  • Why some leave their professions, while others continue

Knowledge on these questions is scarce and research is hampered by lack of data. To address questions related to the importance of the attitudes and preferences students bring to their education, as well as the experience they gain through education and working life, longtitudinal data are crucial.

The database consists of two panels:

(1) a group of students who have just started their education, and

(2) a group of students in the last semester before graduation.

Both participate in several waves of data collection in a timespan of six to nine years. Using StudData as a basis, CSP participates in developing projects researching the issues mentioned above.
