Computer Science

The computer science programme provides a broad basis in core subjects such as mathematics, physics, statistics and computer science, with focus on software development and computer security as well as elective subjects and upgrading courses for both staff and students.

Information Technology

This study programme is basically a 3-year bachelor programme and is also designed for students who wish to leave after two years with the title of “Høgskolekandidat” (College Candidate).

The course, which focuses on software development, aims to give the students the necessary expertise to solve IT problems in business and industry by means of modern computer technology.

Civil Engineering

The civil engineering programme offers courses in material science and construction methods, laboratory practice, structural analysis and dimensioning in the main construction materials wood, steel and concrete. Highway engineering, building maintenance and prevention of deterioration are central topics.  Acts and regulations governing the building industry are also included.

Electrical and Electronic Engineering

The 3-year programme in electrical and electronic engineering offers the two following disciplines:

- Engineering Cybernetics
- Telecommunications

The course in Engineering Cybernetics focuses on analogue and digital control theory and digital signal processing, while the course in Telecommunications focuses on analogue and digital processing, transmission and distribution of information.

Applied Chemistry

The chemistry department offers the following discipline: Biotechnology.

The biotechnology programme provides a sound foundation of basic chemistry and an insight into DNA technology, the technique for altering genetic material. Developing and optimising fermentation processes are among the subjects.

Mechanical Engineering

The mechanical engineering programme offers the following discipline:

Design Technology. It provides a solid foundation in natural science subjects, and aims at training creative, well-functioning and environmentally aware engineers, who, through the use of modern materials and in co-operation with professionals from other disciplines, will be able to design good products and find technical solutions that meet current environmental standards.

Environmental Engineering

This new study programme aims at training engineers to carry out installation work in buildings to meet the requirements for energy use, the indoor and outdoor environment, functionality and cost-effectiveness and focuses on building materials and construction processes that have an impact on the indoor climate as well as on the outdoor environment.

International Technology Management (ITM)

This is a 1-year extension programme in collaboration with a leading Norwegian consulting firm, Norconsult, and Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland. The autumn semester takes place in Oslo and the spring semester in Edinburgh. The programme is non-technical and designed for graduates in engineering or similar disciplines who are interested in a career in an international business environment. The language of instruction is English.

European Project Semester (EPS)

This programme, based on the Danish model of the same name, focuses on project management and how to behave and operate in international business. The study programme is designed to give the students experience in working in a team and managing a real-life project from inception to conclusion. The language of instruction is English.

Master Programme in Network and System Administration

This new Master programme, that started in the autumn of 2003, focuses on the theory, principles and practice of system management, including network and system design, analysis, efficiency and security and teaches practical skills based on Unix, Windows and Macintosh platforms, and on general principles along with their technical and ethical foundations. The language of instruction is English.
