Project Title:Combining Parabens in New Ways to Achieve Better Activity at Reduced Concentrations.
Objective/Research Question: Parabens are among the most widely used preservatives in medicines and allied products. Certain health issues, including hormone-like effects have been reported for parabens. The study aims to combine parabens in novel ways to achieve better activity, such that lower total concentrations can be used.

Project Title :Testing of Novel Derivatives of Metronidazole.
Objective/Research Question Metronidazole is an important antibiotic in the treatment of infections with anaerobic bacteria and protozoa. The chemical structure of metronidazole has been modified in various ways to produce a series of novel derivatives; these are currently being screened for activity.

Project Title : Synthesis and Antibacterial Activity of Agelasine and its Analogues.
Objective/Research Question: Agelasines are 7,9-dialkylpurinium salts which show activity against a number of bacterial species including Mycobacterium species. We are currently testing a number of analogues for antibacterial activity.

Project Title: Development of New Tattooing Colourants which Satisfy the Requirements of the European Commission.
Objective/Research Question: Tattooing colourants can be heavily contaminated with bacteria. However, new proposals from the European Commission will suggest that colorants in the future be produced without preservatives. We are currently testing a new range of colourants which use an ion exchange mechanism (instead of preservatives) as antimicrobial factor.

Project Title: Use of Anti-epileptic Medication for Patients at a SpecialistEpilepsyHospital (SSE)
Objective/Research Question: How are anti-epileptic drugs administered to in-patients at a specialist hospital, with focus on the introduction of new drugs, co-morbidity and combination treatment? This study relates the drug administration to user statistics and therapeutic recommendations.

Project Title: Molecular Mechanisms Effected by Anti-epileptic Drugs
Objective/Research Question: Anti-epileptic medication is used today for a range of other problems than epilepsy, e.g. bipolar disease, migraine, pain management. What are the mechanisms involved in the use of such drugs to treat these conditions?
