Thomas Lorentzen submitted a dissertation in sociology, in 2000, to the University of Bergen. In addition to sociology, he has studied history and comparative politics at the University of Bergen.
He worked as a research assistant at Fafo Research Foundation for a short period of time (from august 2001 until March 2002). From January 2003 until October 2006, he was a doctoral student and a researcher at Fafo. He completed his doctorate in October 2006.
At present, Thomas Lorentzen works as a Senior Research Scientist at IRIS (International Research Institute of Stavanger). He joined the Research Group for Inclusive Welfare Policy, Oslo University College, in a part-time position as a researcher in the fall of 2006.
