Nurses are trained to work with both the healthy and sick members of the community. As public health workers, nurses are one of the many groups of health professionals who work with patients and their families to provide appropriate forms of health care. Target groups for nursing services are people of all ages whose social situations make them vulnerable to failing health, or who are acutely or chronically ill. The work done by nurses embraces a wide range of activities, including preventive health care, medical treatment, palliative care, rehabilitation training, teaching and administration.
Career opportunities
Nurses work mainly in hospitals, nursing homes, municipal health services and occupational health services.
Course structure
The programme consists of both theoretical and clinical/practical studies.
Half of the credits awarded for the course comprise practical nursing studies in which students work directly with patients.
The theoretical courses form a basic foundation and create a better understanding for the practical studies. The practical courses establish close connection with the theoretical evaluations and discussions.

Objectives
Social problems may be of a material, personal or relational nature. Both individuals, groups and a local community may experience social problems og such a nature that they may need help to solve or reduce their problems.
In all kind of social work one must look for possible changes in the services offered, in the organization of services, in the environment and in the clients themselves.
Professional social work is mainly carried out in direct contact between the social worker and the client. Social workers must thus establish a good, constructive relationship with the clients and maintain this during the work process.
Career Opportunities
More than half of all social workers are employed by the municipal health and social services. Other social workers may work in county municipal institutions and organizations, in labour market services, social security services, crime prevention and in education. There are many other tasks and challenges in other public and private sectors as well.
