HELP
- Helpful Electronic Patient Record

The HELP project is a collaboration between the Faculty of Medicine and Department of Computer Science and Information Technology at NTNU in Trondheim. The project is funded by the Norwegian Research Council.

The aim is to develop better information architectures and reusability of the electronic patient record (EPR) for primary healthcare in Norway. Research and experience give reasons to believe that it is possible to make a better and more flexible architecture for use, exchange, production, presentation, ownership, and flow of information in today's EPR.

HELP will focus on helpful record systems for primary healthcare that are able to analyze, present and quality check information in an active but less offensive way. The system should be able to adjust to both the user and the situation, i.e. be context sensitive.

Existing EPRs are just a copy of the paper-based patient record with little, or no understanding or knowledge of the information in the record. The record does not take advantage of technology and methods that are available today. The focus will be on how program systems kan take advantage of different journal structures in order to obtain better applicability of information. The system has to have some kind of knowledge of its content and use and our main effort will be on how to represent information - knowledge representation.
