Introduction

This course is targeted to provide the students an overview of the latest happenings in the upcoming field of MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical Systems).

MEMS is undergoing rigorous research due to recognition of its enormous potential in a spectrum of areas ranging from medical, automotive, space, communications, safety, comfort, to even day to day devices and equipment.

MEMS research is being carried out in many contexts such as new fabrication techniques, new structures and designs, and an ever-going quest for miniaturization. Another very important phase of MEMS research is 'signal processing'. Without efficient and optimal signal processing the purpose of the device may be defeated.

In this course our emphasis would be on MEMS signal processing.

The course shall begin with brief sessions on introduction and will continue with discussions on key-areas such as smart MEMS interfaces, calibration techniques, error sources, and in the end a few case-studies to give a real-life insight of MEMS applications. During the concluding phase of the course at least one guest lecture is planned from an invited researcher actively engaged in the field of MEMS.
