The course aims at building the students skills in linear algebra. Topics include inversion and regularization of poorly conditions matrices, penalized and constrained regression problems, multi-dimensional rotations and scaling various kinds of compontent analyses, such as Principal components and Independent components, useful matrix decompositions and matrix algebra. Interpretation of eigenvector/values and singular vectors/values is a central part of the curriculum. The focus will be on interpretation and application of these methods in practical situations, and the student will apply one or more of the techniques in a compulsory assignment.
