BERGEN MARINE FOOD CHAIN
RESEARCH INFRASTRUCTURE

(Large Scale Facility for Marine Pelagic Food Chain Research)

The Bergen Marine Food Chain Research Infrastructure is a set of complementary marine installations covering the axis from controlled laboratory systems to mesocosms and natural environments. European scientists are offered access to the Infrastructure free of charge through support from the European Union's 5th Framework Programme (Human Potential: Access to Research Infrastructures).

European scientists can propose short-term projects to be conducted at certain installations from the University of Bergen and the Institute of Marine Research. Prospective applicants are adviced to contact a scientist in their respective area of research at the UoB or the IMR. Project proposals are selected on the basis of scientific merit through an independent peer review procedure. Participants of appointed projects are granted international travel and living expenses (under certain constraints), and access to the Infrastructure free of charge, normally for a period between three weeks and four months. Access to the installations implies infrastructural, logistical, technical and scientific support.

Only research teams conducting their research in the member states of the European Union and Associated States are eligible to benefit under the present activity

Sorry!
No more opportunities for EC-funded access available

All capacity available under the present contract has already been allocated.
In spite of a very good evaluation, our last proposal to the European Commission has not been granted. Hence the programme has been discontinued. Eventual new opportunities will be announced in this site when available (unlikely before the end of 2004)

PhD students may apply for access to a complementary core project: the "Bergen Advanced Training Site in Marine Ecology" (BATMARE). Experienced researchers may apply for longer tenancies at the University of Bergen through the following EC schemes: Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowships (for experienced researchers from the EU and Associated States; deadline: 18.02.2004) and Marie Curie Incoming International Fellowships (for top class researchers from other countries; deadline: 12.02.2004)
