EU-POSTDOC POSITIONS AVAILABLE!¹
Two EU-Research and Training network (EU-RTN)
Postdocs in Immunology/Cell biology/imaging (2 yrs and 1 yr
possible extensions). Open also for non-EU citizens. Funded
from the RTN Research Network: “Microbial action on immune
survival,
MICROBAN” Grant MRTN-CT2003-504227. The scientific program
is designed to unravel the mechanisms leading to host defense
against infections in particular via the MHC molecules. The
modulation of intracellular transport and location of immune
molecules and pathogens and the various sorting signals that
determine the routing and location inside the cell will, be
studied. There are 8 groups in the network and this group is
studying the processes by live imaging using fluorescent
probes. Preferred qualifications: molecular biology, cell
biology, imaging, microbiology. Negotiable start of position,
available now. Further info and applic.:

The group (starting left): Oddmund, Cathrine (has recently
left the group), Shailly (presently
out on maturnity leave), Frode, Nicolas, Trygve and Ole.
Missing from the picture are Sussie (on maturnity leave),
Silke (in Bergen), Dmitrii and Linda.
Briefly about us:
Our
group is located at the Department of Molecular Biosciences at the
University of Oslo. Currently we are about 8 people in the group studying
the molecular mechanisms of the intracellular protein sorting and
trafficking as well as the biogenesis and maturation of the endocytic
compartments........ |

MDCK cells overexpressing invariant chain. In green is the
early endosomal marker EEA1-GFP, in red lysotracker red.
Micrograph by Frode M. Skjeldal.

Immunogold labelling on ultra-thin cryosection in electron
microscopy. The left picture shows multilaminar MIICs in
immature dendritic cells labelled for MHC class II molecules.
The right
picture shows a MIIC in maturing dendritic cells also labelled
for MHC class II molecules. In addition of class II
redistribution at the cell surface, maturation of dendritic
cells induces morphological changes of MIICs: packaging of
internal membranes and formation of tubules from the limiting
membrane. The picture was awarded at the SCANDEM 2003 meeting. |
