The MSc study
Telematics is one of two fields of study within the MSc programme for Communication Technology at NTNU. Department of Telematics is responsible for the Telematics Field of Study, while Department of Electronics and Telecommunication (IET) is responsible for the Signal Processing and Communication Field of Study.
The structure of the MSc study is also shown in the video presentations. For information about the Communication Technology program in Norwegian, please visit the KomTek webpage.
The MSc programme leads to a Master of Science Degree in Communication Technology. A 5-year study is offered to students without previous Technical College or University education. The study requires a background from upper secondary school (high school/US) with emphasis on mathematics and physics. A 2-year study is offered to students with a BSc from a University or Technical College with an appropriate basis for the Telematics study.
The MSc study in Telematics has two parts: A telematics foundation and specialisation. The foundation aims to give a broad technological knowledge and skill, comprising architecture, specification, analysis, design, implementation and dimensioning of communication networks and networked services. The options for specialisation in the last two years of the study are as follows:
| Telematics Fields of Specialisations | |
| Access and Core Networks | Information Security |
| Dependability and Performance | Networked Service and Multimedia Systems |
| Systems Engineering | Tele Economics (5 year study only) |
| Telecom, Organisation and Society(5 year study only) | |
The 5-year Telematics study has seven fields of specialisations, while the 2-year study is limited to five fields. Tele Economics and Telecom, Organisation and Society can not be chosen in the 2-year MSc study.
Tele Economics is conducted in cooperation with Department of Industrial Economics and Technology Management, while Telecom, Organisation and Society is conducted in cooperation with Department of Sociology and Political Science.
In addition to the education offered as a part of the NTNU MSc programmes, the department is offering a 2-year international MSc study as a partner in an EU Erasmus Mundus MSc programme in Security and Mobile Computing under the responsibility of the NordSecMob consortium.
