TTK4185 Robust Control

Spring 2007

Instructor: Professor Morten Hovd

Course aims: The course will familiarise the students with the use of multivariable frequency analysis to determine control performance requirements and limitations in achievable performance. A particular focus will be the effects of model errors for mulitivariable systems.

Prerequisites: TTK4105 Control Engineering, TMA4110 Calculus 3.

Course Content: Poles and zeros in multivariable systems, pole and zero vectors. The multivariable Nyquist theorem, Small gain theorem, Limitations in achievable performance for mono- and multivariable control systems. Some material on controller design for uncertain systems, H-infinity and mu-optimal conrol.

Teaching: Lectures, exercises and an independent project. Approximately 70% of the exercises and the project must be approved to be admitted to the exam. The project will count 25% towards the final grade.

Literature: Sigurd Skogestad and Ian Postlethwaite: Multivariable Feedback Control. Analysis and Design, Second Edition, Wiley, 2005.

Date of first lecture: 8th January
