Power plant monitoring

In order to quantify the floating debris problem at intakes in terms of head loss and loss of power production, Fossum power plant (Sør-Trøndelag) was monitored for 10 months. Head measurements were done with some pressure transducers placed at the intake and on the penstock. A temperature logger was also placed in the water at the intake. The temperature and pressure data were automatically recorded every 30 min. In addition, a video camera filmed the intake pond, ½ a second every 10 min, in order to know the conditions at the intake.

The graph below shows the head loss over a period of three months between the intake house and a point on the penstock about 50 m from the intake.
