Each year, vacancies for book review contributors are filled through a general application process. Anyone may apply. Books should be relevant to the YbIEL, involving issues of international environmental law, and have been published during the year of that volume's coverage. Books within the specific theme of a particular volume are especially welcome.
If you would like to register your e-mail address and be periodically informed of new vacancies, follow the instructions after clicking here. (You will be forwarded to a University of Oslo webpage where you can register your e-mail address.)
The application period opens when the YbIEL Editors announce the theme for that year's YbIEL, on or about 1 October in the calendar year for which a YbIEL volume will cover (volume 17 covering 2006 announced the theme on 1 October 2006).
Book review proposals are accepted until 1 December at the end of each calendar year for which a YbIEL volume will cover (volume 17 covering 2006 had an application deadline of 1 December 2006). Late submissions will not be considered.
There are three types of book review proposals:
To submit an application in either of the first two types of proposals, submit the two following documents to the YbIEL Editors via the following e-mail address: ybiel-editors 'at' jus.uio.no. Submit these documents as either an MS Word (.doc) or an Adobe (.pdf) file, but not as text within an e-mail.
To submit a book suggestion without an application to review that book, send an e-mail with the publication information of the book and web link (if available) to the YbIEL Editors via the following e-mail address: ybiel-editors 'at' jus.uio.no.
On or about 31 December, the YbIEL Book Review Editor will announce the selection of books to review and those who will review. Usually, there are two to four book reviews published in each volume of the YbIEL.
A book review vacancy position is not considered filled until it is explicitly accepted. If no acceptance confirmation is received within a reasonable time (at the Book Review Editors' discretion), the Editors will select another book review proposal.
Confirmation should be made to the YbIEL Book Review Editor and must be cc'ed to the YbIEL Secretary (contact info at the YbIEL Staff Page). The confirmation e-mail must also include the following information:
A complete guide to the deadlines, substance, form, and submission of articles can be found at the YbIEL Book Review Page. If your book review proposal is accepted, please consult this page in detail. Each contributor receives a complimentary copy of the YbIEL.
