Our research group is interdisciplinary, consisting of people with different scientific background such as chemistry, pharmacy, and physics. This group represents a wide range of research activities. Our research is mainly focused on amphiphilic polymers, their synthesis, interaction with surfactants, and their temperature induced association and gelation. We are working on both nonionic polymers and on polyelectrolytes, we are also studying aqueous mixtures of different polymers. A central theme in our investigations is the relations between formation, structure and physical features of aqueous systems of amphiphilic polymers under various conditions. We are continuously looking for use of these polymers in pharmaceutical applications and to develop materials. Other areas of research include chemically cross-linked gels, adsorption and desorption of polymers on colloidal particles, photochemical-induced changes of polymers, and shear-induced association and gelation of biopolymers. We have studied various aspects of polysaccharides such as ethyl(hydroxyethyl)cellulose, hydroxyethylcellulose, hyaluronic acid, dextran, chitosan, alginate, and pectin. We are also working on amphiphilic, thermosensitive block and graft copolymers, poly(vinyl alcohol), hydrophobically modified polymers, and their interactions with cyclodextrins.

Primary experimental techniques of investigation involve rheology, static and dynamic light scattering, small angle neutron scattering, gel swelling experiments, asymmetric flow field-flow fractionation and size exclusion chromatography, pulsed gradient spin-echo NMR, and turbidity and cloud point determination.
