In the UiO's regulations the term "repeat examination" is not used. Instead the terms deferred examination and new examination are used. A deferred examination is offered to students who have valid grounds for failing to attend an examination, while a new examination may be offered to students who withdraw during an examination or fail an examination. Both these terms are part of the concept of what is habitually called a repeat examination.
Students who fail the final examination, who withdraw during the final examination, or who provide documentary evidence of valid absence from the final examination in the autumn of 2004, are entitled to sit for a repeat examination in the subject at the beginning of January 2005. The definitive date will be published c. 1 December, but the repeat examinations will be held c. 10 January.
For constituent examinations the following applies in respect of repeat examinations: Unless otherwise stated under the course descriptions a new examination is not held after a constituent examination. Students who fail or withdraw during a constituent examination will normally be given the opportunity to complete the course and sit for the final examination or the next constituent examination, but the result for the constituent examination that has been failed or withdrawn from will count in the overall evaluation for the course. Students with valid grounds for failing to attend a constituent examination must as a general rule sit for a deferred examination in the constituent from which they have been absent. Exceptions from this may be field courses and laboratory exercises. Deferred examinations for constituent examinations are held prior to the commencement of the final examination.
Registration for any repeat examination for constituent examinations is administered manually by the department under which the course belongs. Registration for any repeat examination after the final examination is the responsibility of the students themselves, who must do this via StudentWeb. The latter will be open for registration of repeat examination notifications from c. 20 December to c. 3 January. The exact registration period for notifications of repeat examinations will be published on this page from c. 1 December.
