MedViz – a new Research & Development cluster in Bergen |
About the MedViz Initiative in Bergen
In modern medicine, the doctor extensively bases the diagnosis and choice of therapy on interpretation of images. A wide range of medical imaging modalities is developed to support and guide management of patients. Image-guided therapy has a rapid growing impact on clinical decision making in many disciplines. However, the potential benefits of all these imaging methods have by far been fully exploited. Multi-modal, multi-parametric and dynamic imaging are important issues that need further penetration with great potential outcomes for the patients. Therefore, three major institutions in Bergen: Haukeland University Hospital, University of Bergen and Christian Michelsen Research have decided to launch MedViz, - a new Research & Development consortium between these institutions. MedViz is a cluster of groups performing interdisciplinary research in advanced image analysis and visualisation bridging the gap between “bench and bedside”. MedViz also includes imaging physics and fundamental biomedical translational research. Our mission is to promote the development of biomedical and clinical imaging technologies with the ultimate goal of improving diagnosis and treatment of patients. MedViz wants to develop new clinical methods for potential commercialisation by means of denovo software for analysis, decision support and visual communication. |

Report from excursion to CMIV and NVIS |
Report from excursion to CMIV and NVIS
In the last week of April a group from MedViz travelled to Linköping and Norrköping in Sweeden, visiting Anders Persson and Anders Ynnermann at CMIV (Center for Medical Image Science and Visualization) and NVIS (Norrköping Visualization and Interaction Studio). We were given a great introduction to organisation of these centres, and had the opportunity to look at and play around with the available medical equipment and installations in the visualization laboratories. In addition to an overview of research activates we also met several of the PhD-students connected to the centres, and were given interesting talks from some of the active research projects. We also had discussions about possible cooperation activities, and we are looking forward to receive our Swedish colleagues in Bergen soon! The report from this excursion is found here. |
