Mathematical economics and management science covers a wide
range of topics. In this seminar we will only be able to touch
upon a few of them. Keywords are management of renewable
resources such as our fisheries and other environmental aspects
(e.g., the problem of carbon dioxide accumulation in the
atmosphere). The ultimate goal is to provide some tools for the
politicians and decision makers; e.g., determining optimal
dynamical corrective taxes (pollution problems) and total
allowable catches (TAC), or harvest quotas for optimal
utilisation of a natural resource (fish, timber, etc.).
Stochastic features appear in many problems of modern
mathematical economics. Most of these must be attacked through
advanced numerical methods in order to deal with realistic
"boundary conditions" or other "natural economic
restrictions". The modern society has a very complex
structure which is difficult to understand and predict regarding
future behaviour. One way to get some insight into its behaviour
regarding economics and management is by mathematical modelling
of basic processes. This requires advanced mathematical tools,
both analytical and numerical. In this seminar we will focus on
these issues.
