Giske has announced he is preparing a white paper on the country’s film industry, which will be presented to the Norwegian parliament next spring. The paper will outline future policies on finance and structure till 2014.

Last week (Wednesday, 30 August) Giske named the members of his committee, which is supposed to provide the ammunition for some of the changes within the current system of state support for film production.

The committee will discuss – among others – how to spend more money on film and less on administration; who should be responsible for what in the industry; and a strategy for the international launch of Norwegian features.

Also on the agenda is a quota system to ensure equality between men and women in the distribution of jobs in film. Giske expected that within four years 40% of key positions in film production will be taken over by women.

Members of the committee (which has a majority of women): managing director Vigdis Lian, of the Norwegian Film Institute, managing director Lene Løken, of Norwegian cinema association, Film & Kino, Nordisk Film producers Aage Aaberge and Solvor Amdahl, directors Nina Grünfeld, Margreth Olin and Ulrik Imtiaz Rolfsen, actress Ane Dahl Torp, film coordinator Elisabeth Sjaastad, managing director Henning Camre, of the Danish Film Institute, and deputy director of the Swedish Film Institute, Peter Hald.
