My research currently focuses on high-resolution geochemical and sedimentological investigations in coastal near settings of the Nordic Seas and the Arctic Ocean. The published concepts for assessing recent organic sedimentation processes, the reconstruction of Late Quaternary paleoproductivity changes and terrestrial organic matter input, as well as the modeling of quality and quantity of Tertiary source rocks and evaluating active and passive seepages of gaseous hydrocarbons in polar coastal environments have provided new insights into the carbon cycle of high northern latitudes.

My main interests focus on glacial geology, Late Pleistocene stratigraphy, climate change and sedimentary processes in northern regions. This includes projects both in the terrestrial and in the marine fjord and lake environments. Projects:
Norpast 2: Past Climate of The Norwegian Region. My contribution concerns deglaciation history and environmental changes deduced from acoustic data and sedimentary cores in Nordfjord, W Norway.
SEDITRANS: Past and currents valley-to-fjord sediment transport- processes and products, western Norway. My scientific input concerns the fjord and lake sedimentary sub-systems (swath bathymetry, acoustic data and sedimentary cores).
GlaciPet: Ice ages: subsidence, uplift and tilting of traps – the influence on petroleum system. My input concerns the late Pleistocene stratigraphy and glacial history based on terrestrial fieldwork in NW Russia.
ICG: International Centre of Geohazard: Landslides in soft clay slopes. My input is to deduce spatial and stratigraphic (chronological) extent of Holocene submarine slides along the coastal zone of Trondheimsfjorden and to understand the processes and factors that have triggered these events.

My research is focused on controlling factors and mechanisms of denudative slope processes and fluvial processes, sediment budgets, and relief development in cold environments. I finished my PhD with a topic on sediment transfers and relief development in East Iceland at the Institute of Geography at the Martin-Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg in Germany (1996-1999). After my PhD time I continued and extended my process and sediment budget oriented studies with additional study sites in Iceland, Swedish Lapland and Finnish Lapland. From 1999 until my start at NGU in 2004 I have been Post-Doc and Visiting Scientist at the Department of Earth Sciences, Uppsala University, Sweden, and at the Natural Research Centre of North-western Iceland. During my time at NGU I have extended my investigations by adding Norwegian study sites. Research is currently carried out within the project Source-to-Sink-Fluxes in Cold Environments. I am interested in the integration of geo-, bio- and social systems within landscape studies. Proposals related to SEDIFLUX. I am Chair of ESF SEDIFLUX and IAG/AIG SEDIBUD. I participate with contributions on process geomorphology in the projects SciencePub and SEDITRANS.

Dinoflagellate cysts (dinocysts) are organic resting spores of a plankton group inhabiting the photic zone of the marine realm and the coastal region in particular.
My research applies dinocyst analysis as a method to understand sedimentological processes, hydrography and climates and to differentiate between glacial, deglacial and interglacial periods. Most of my work focuses on arctic environments.

My research are on the interactions between glacial-/post-glacial processes, Quaternary glaciations and landscape development. Most of my work concerns the Scandinavian shield and mountain areas. Current research topics include:
To reach these research objectives I use a variety of tools including; mapping using remote sensing data, GIS analysis, morpho- and lithostratigraphy, terrestrial cosmogenic isotope dating and physical/chemical properties in soils.

I am educated in Physical geography and Quaternary geology at Stockholm university, Sweden with speciality in geomorphology, paleoclimatology and lacustrine sedimentology. My doctoral thesis was entitled; Alpine lake sediment archives and catchment geomorphology; causal relationships and implications for paleoenvironmental reconstructions.
I continue at NGU with research concerning landscape and climate evolution traced in geomorphological features and sedimentological archives. Another emerging focus is public outreach concerning general Quaternary geology and Paleoclimatology.| CV | Publications |

Glacier-landscape interactions and related periglacial processes comprise my main research interests. In order to describe, understand and quantify these processes I apply sedimentological, geophysical and morphological approaches. My current work is part of the SEDITRANS project, where I focus on the formation of saw-tooth moraine ridges and the glacial erosion since Little Ice Age maximum position.
