Health Behaviour in School-Aged Children (HBSC) is a set of cross-national surveys carried out in 1983/84 (4 countries), 1985/86 (14 countries), 1989/90 (17 countries), 1993/94 (24 countries) and 1997/98 (29 countries). The HEMIL Research Centre at the University of Bergen was one of the initial partners, and Norway has participated in all rounds. The World Health Organization (WHO) is a collaborating partner in the project.

The aim of the HBSC is to collect research data to study and better understand health-related behaviour, lifestyle and attitudes among young people. In addition is collected contextual data on individual background, school situation, family and context in general. Those interviewed are 11, 13, and 15 years of age. Data from all participating countries are integrated in one international file by NSD.
