The grading scale at NTNU:

In the grading of individual examinations the following system is used:

Courses in the area of Technology and Architecture:

A grading scale of whole and half points from 1.0 to 6.0 inclusive. The master thesis may be graded on a scale of quarter points. Grades from 1.0 to 4.0 inclusive represent a pass, while the other grades indicate a fail.

Courses in the area of Arts, Science and Social Sciences:

A grading scale of tenths from 1.0 to 6.0 inclusive. Grades from 1.0 to 4.0 inclusive represent a pass, while the other grades indicate a fail.

NB! Grades 1.0 and 1.5 are rearly used.

The terms "bestått" (passed) and "ikke bestått" (failed).

These designations are used for the final grades:

Outstanding 1.0 to 1.5 NB!(Very rarely used at Social Sciences and Arts)

Very good 1.6 to 2.0

Good 2.1 to 3.0

Fair 3.1 to 4.0
