Norwegian universities offer opportunities for M.Sc.-, Diploma Courses sponsored by NORAD, the Norwegian Agency for Development Co-operation. This fellowship programme is part of Norway's official assistance to developing countries.
The Norwegian Council of Universities and NORAD signed an agreement in 1998 whereby the Council took over the responsibility for the management of the programme. The Council’s international programme division is the Centre for International University Co-operation (SIU).
The special nature of the NORAD fellowships has some important consequences:
The applicant should preferably hold a job in his/her home country with an institution/organisation/firm that is willing to grant a leave of absence for the duration of the studies. Public servants and employees associated with the state sector, employees of parastatal sectors, private sector enterprises, university teachers and staff of research institutes are eligible for consideration to attend the various courses. At present NTNU offers the following courses under NORAD-fellowship programme:The Norwegian Embassies in the respective countries can give more detailed information about the application procedure.
Description of the courses, entry requirements, application procedures, etc., are given in the annual booklet "NORAD Fellowship Programme". This booklet and the necessary application forms can be obtained from any Norwegian Embassy, General Consulate or NORAD Resident Representative. Applications can also be loaded down from the website: http://siu.no/norad.
The courses are given in English and are offered in selected fields in which NTNU is considered to have good international standing. Please note that the applications should be sent to SIU in Bergen via the nearest Norwegian Embassy not later than 1 December, every year.
Applications for the Intensive short course should be sent directly to NTNU and reach the university not later than 1 December. Candidates who are clearly overqualified for the courses are not likely to be accepted.
