Aluminium technology For Norwegian industry the increased use of aluminium in automotive structures as well as in high-speed crafts poses new technological challenges. Economy, safety and structural integrity aspects are here driving forces in the product development.
In cooperation with industry In order to strengthen the education within this field of engineering in support of the industrial needs, the Department of Structural Engineering established in January 1999 a Structural Impact Laboratory (SIMLab). The laboratory is based on the competence and laboratory facilities available at the Department of Structural Engineering. SIMLab includes both a physical and numerical laboratory, where a systematic build up of the test facilities over a number of years have been made possible through close corporation with the Norwegian Defence Construction Service, Hydro Aluminium a.s., Raufoss Technology and Statoil.
