Background for the meeting
How can we make development aid cheap and effective, while still helping
people where they are? NORAD thinks we should give computers to the developing
countries. But will information technology solve the world's development
problems? Illiteracy is widespread in many areas of the South. How can
we help people who do not know how to read and write, make use of the internet?
Is transporting bits and chips to countries in the South meaningful if
we don't take into consideration the knowledge and organisation needed
in order for the technology to work over time? |
