This page was created only to avoid making a lot of waffles to our new web manager Olav Gaute Hellesø. Now, when it's up running, I will use the opportunity to give some general information about myself. I have my research background from theoretical physics, working with plasmas and solid particles interacting with plasmas (dusty plasmas).

Currently I am working in the Applied Physics group, which, of cource, means that I have to deal more with the real world. Research projects which I'm involved in are:

Simulations of micro wave propagation in inhomogeneous media: This is a joint project with Svein Jacobsen, where we want to model wave propagation in hyperthermia. The project uses both microwave measurements (Svein's job) and a computer code (my job) which solves Maxwells equations using a spectral method.

Moving contours and surfaces in image processing: Here motion of contours in digital images are modeled by a so called snake. This snake consist of N point where the motion of these point are prescribed by a partial differential equation. For the moment, there are 3 students working with snakes and object recognition, which I supervise. These are:

  • Mohamed Keyse
  • Said Hassan Ahmed
  • Vedad Hadziavdic

Mohamed's projects are done in cooperation with Torbjørn Eltoft and Telemedisinske center in Tromsø, while Vedad has an external supervisor at the University of Bergen.

Accurate prediction of particle motion and velocity generated This work involves segmentation and accurate position prediction of particles in a crystal.

Molecular dynamics: Numerical simulation of the dynamic of solid particles confined in a plasma discharge. These particles are in an experimental situation, normally confined close to solid walls or electrodes, which means that sheath- and plasma flow effects have to be taken into account.
