About myself

[picture of cesar and me]

I am currently on leave from my position as a post-doc in the University of Tromsø, working as associate professor in UNIS (The University Centre in Svalbard).

Quick link to UB.

I work with incoherent scattering, in particular the EISCAT Svalbard Radar (ESR). I have experience with the design and implementation of software for scientific radar systems through the Open Radar Initiative, and I have made material contribution to its precursor and current prototype implementation, the MIDAS-W Software Radar at MIT Haystack Observatory.

My current project is to implement an aperture synthesis imaging capability for the ESR, called EASI. Scientists from RAL are joining this project also. The progress of the project is reported here. The project, both currently and in its earlier stages, has benefited from the generous donation in 2003 of a dual Itanium Red Hat Linux workstation from Fujitsu Siemens

I have a list of publications, or you can Search for me in ADS, search for me in the SRef database, or (Norwegian only) you can look me up in Frida.

My PhD supervisor was Dr. César La Hoz. Here is a picture of César and me — César to the right. (picture courtesy of Anja Strømme)

Some useful(?) stuff

A toolbox, for use with Matlab to compute and visualize 2-dimensional range-lag ambiguity functions, used in overspread radar signal processing.

Instructions on how to use my BiBTeX reference database for your manuscripts and articles (includes some information on BiBTeX itself.) Also available is a small Perl program to convert BiBTeX .bib files to text or HTML, which was used to generate this listing of the database inventory.

A small program to generate a sheet of business cards according to the University of Tromsø standard, one side English, one Norwegian. Written in Perl, generates PostScript.

The official University of Tromsø logo, as EPS, and in color. These are as obtained from the profile page at the dept. of Information, but with some random binary junk which prevented printing taken out.

Fun stuff

[View my geocaching profile]

I am moderately active in geocaching, a sport (or a game, if you prefer) where a treasure is hidden somewhere, and you can try to find it, using your GPS receiver. I have created a cache of my own, located in the vicinity of Tromsø, with paperback books as the treasure item of choice. Informasjon om geocaching på Norsk finner du fra starte.no. I have also released a travel bug into the wild. It is called Bull's horns puzzle bug and it wants to meet puzzles of a similar nature while travelling the world.

(If you think this sounds like fun and need tips for equipment, Joe Mehaffey et al. maintain an excellent GPS site with reviews of receiver models etc.)

Also, I like to juggle.
