QoS management by emergent behaviour
The project explores the principles for, the feasibility and the quantitative properties of applying emergent behaviour to provide QoS, and, as a basis for this, have effcient resource utilization in distributed communication systems. (Emergent behaviour, in this context, is global behaviour seen from the individual service users and the network as a whole, emerging from a (large) number of simple, loosely coordinated actions/behaviour by agents/network elements/etc.) This may be regarded as a distributed stochastic optimization problem. From the rare event theory based cross-entropy optimization principle, simple agent behaviour is derived, which finds good solutions to NP hard problems, and with added heuristics, deals well with QoS management issues.
