Women's Forum Marathon 1999 / Kvinneforskermaraton
1999
Mini-Lectures
- PROGRAM
|
|
| The Kvinneforskermaraton, which this year forms part of Women's Worlds
99, is a five-day long series of mini-lectures, 11 hours each day, aimed
at both the general public and conference delegates. Everyone is welcome
to drop in and listen - to one mini-lecture, or three, or ten - or whatever
you are interested in. The Marathon presents topics as diverse as human
rights, women in business and politics, domestic violence, women in literature,
fatherhood, Viking age women, queer families, education, sexuality, life
in the Arctic, pregnancy, feminist activism, religion – the list could
go on. You are bound to find something of interest!
Organizing the Kvinneforskermaraton, or the "women's research marathon", is a biannual tradition started in 1989 by the Network for Women in Research (from 1996 the Centre for Women's Studies and Women in Research) at the University of Tromsø. The marathon is a day-long series of short lectures offered to the general public. The general set-up has been three presentations per hour, non-stop, and every one of the five marathons organized so far has lasted for at least 12 hours, involving at least 36 women. Organizing the Marathon as part of Women's Worlds 99 provides the general public with a unique opportunity to participate in a part of the academic program of the conference, alongside the conference delegates, at no charge. But first and foremost, the Kvinneforskermaraton gives both conference delegates and the general public a unique opportunity to get a feeling for the diversity of topics and issues under discussion during this gathering of women from around the world! Where: Teaterloftet, KulturHuset (Tromsø Performing Arts
Centre)
NB! We kindly ask all lecturers to note that we request you to report to the organizers of the marathon at Teaterloftet at least 10 minutes before the session in which your mini-lecture is included begins. |
