Our shell access machine had a crash this weekend, and services like ftp, sshd and irc went offline. We are currently reinstalling the OS on this machine, and it should be up and running again imminently.

23/08-2007 - Has anyone seen the Internet Explorer icon? |

There are currently some problems where some of our users have lost the Internet Explorer icon. We are currently working on solving this problem and you do not need to contact the Helpdesk service about this.
If this happens and you still need Internet Explorer, then you can open the explorer - my computer and type in the web-address at the top address field.

21/08-2007 - Parking on Campus. |

Due to the growth in demand for car parking at UiT, the Technical Department has, in cooperation with the IT Department, developed a new personal parking card system. The new system will be implemented during the autumn of 2007 (after the closing of student registrations). In order to receive a parking card, students and employees will have to fill out an online form. All students who have paid their semester fees and all employees are eligible to receive the parking card. The parking card does not have any fees attached to it and is free to receive and use.
All holders of the parking card will have an equal right to use the designated and marked parking facilities at UiT. Tromsø Parkering KF will be responsible for ensuring that parking at UiT adheres to Tromsø council's rules and regulations. Each parking card has a barcode which will be scanned by Tromsø Parkering when needed, in order to check that car and card constitutes a match.
The Technical Department will soon send out an email with a link to the form and the guidelines.

09/08-2007 - Updating Central IT Systems! |

|
There will be some maintanace running on central IT systems at 04:00PM today, and as this work progresses there will be several systems that will go offline. For us this will primarily mean that new users won't be able to register and activate their accounts and you won't be able to access password and profile systems.
We except the upgrade to take about 3 hours.
