Study Packages offered to Exchange Students
The University of Oslo aims to improve the study opportunities for exchange students who plan to spend one or two semesters studying in Norway. Presently, the main body of courses offered in English are at a master’s level. The University of Oslo aims to expand the range of courses offered at a bachelor’s level and has therefore developed three study packages starting in the spring semester 2007:
Package 1: Globalization, Development and the Environment
Package 2: Scandinavian Studies
Package 3: Economics (autumn semester only)
The student chooses which and how many subjects he/she wants to take at the University of Oslo. It is possible to combine courses from different packages. Please note that the study packages may be subject to change.
In order to make the courses accessible to both Norwegian and exchange students, the student can choose whether he/she will attend seminar groups in Norwegian or English (not all courses include seminars). The curriculum is entirely in English and lectures are held in English. It is optional whether the student will complete the exams in English or Norwegian.
Please note that in the spring 2007 there might, unfortunately, be collisions in teaching and exams for some courses within the same package. It is up to the student to make sure that he/she does not choose courses with colliding teaching/exams.

Drawing on the disciplines of human geography, social anthropology, political science, economy and history, this package aims to give the student an interdisciplinary understanding of globalization, development and the environment. The package is broad in approach, focusing on themes such as development in the Third World, local knowledge, globalization processes, the relationship between humans and nature, and environmental discourses.
Courses Offered in this Study Package:

This package focuses on some of the key areas within the Scandinavian welfare model; work, family and gender equality. It is cross cultural in focus, placing emphasis on the particular social and cultural contexts in the different Nordic countries, and the outcome of political decision making in the areas of work, family and gender equality.
Since it can not be expected that exchange students (outside the Nordic countries) possess the necessary knowledge of Norwegian society before their arrival, the introductory course ‘Norwegian Life and Society’ is offered in this package. This course focuses on the history of Norwegian social and economic structures.
Scandinavian studies are offered in co-operation with the Faculty of Humanities and Centre for Women's Studies and Gender Research.
