Welcome to Gender and Development! The section for gender and development is dedicated to produce and promote research on gender issues related to development processes within the context of globalization; with a particular emphasis on addressing poverty and vulnerability. The section is responsible for an Mphil on Gender and Development which has as its main goals to enable students to understand the significance of gender for development policy and projects and to use gender as a problematized analytical category in their own research. The program emphasizes the understanding of local gendered patterns of social organization as well as gender in a cross-cultural perspective. Moreover, stress is put on a broad notion of human development, which views the ultimate goal of development processes as enlarging people's rights and capabilities for achieving not only a decent standard of living, but gender equity as well as equity in health and education: and more broadly in achieving an environment supportive of empowerment, democracy and human security. The Section Gender and Development is a member of the EADI , the European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes. |
