The chancellor of the University of Oslo has appointed the director of information as editor-in-chief of the university's World Wide Web (WWW) presence. This delegation of editorial responsibilities is not intended just to share the work load involved in the WWW pages between the chancellor's office and the Department of Information. Rules concerning editorial responsibility dictate that the party that determines the content of the pages assumes editorial responsibility. This implies that the party that determines the content of the pages must also possess the competence to complete this task, which makes it natural for this function to reside with the director of information, his or her deputy and the Department of Information.
This primacy of editorial responsibility applies to all information published on the WWW and that information that is physically stored in the university's computer files. The Department of Information also retains the primary editorial responsibility for information that students publish from the University of Oslo. This dictates that everyone who publishes information at the University of Oslo must read and agree to the terms of the IT regulations.
An WWW editorial board has been established to ensure the overall coordination of the University's web site.
