The subject is a continuation of MAT4340 - Elementary functional analysis were the functional analysis is developed in a broader setting by using concepts from topology and the theory of measure and integration. Central themes treated are locally convex topological vector spaces and their duals, the Gelfand theory of commutative Banach algebras and commutative C*-algebras and spectral theorem for normal bounded operators on a Hilbert space.
The course is primarily aimed at students who want to write a master thesis about operator algebras, but it may also be useful for other master or doctoral students.
To participate in this course you must have an admission to a Ph.D.-programme at a Norwegian University or University College.
If you do not have an admission to the Ph.D.-Programme in Science at The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at UiO, you have to apply for hospitantstatus (norwegian text) . For more information, please contact the Department.
