Zoofysiologi, fiskefysiologi og økotoksikologi, akvakultur.

Forskning:

Økotoksikologi og økofysiologi mht. fisk og miljøgifter, bl.a. koblet til EU forskningsprosjekt i høyfjellsjøer (koordinert fiskestudier i AL:PE, AL:PE 2,, MOLAR, EMERGE). Deltaker i flere nye prosjekter i EUs 6. rammeprogram.
Fiske fysiologi og fiskebestander i forhold til surt og kalket vann. Studier av fysiologiske og toksikologiske effekter av Al-ulikevekt systemer (Blandsoner/Mixing Zones) både i ferskvann (EU/NFR prosjektet ” Physico-chemical forms of aluminium in non-equilibrium aquatic systems and related biological effects") og i brakkvann (NFR prosjekt ESTUARIEMIX).
Fastlegging av vassdragsspesifikke vannkvalitetskrav (tålegrenser) for laksefisk mht. forsuring og nøytralisering . Uttesting av alternative nøytraliseringsmetoder (Silikat med og uten sjøvannstilsetning). Karakterisering av stammespesifikke egenskaper hos ulike fiskearter mht. vannkvalitet (bl.a. ørret og laks i surt vann NFR prosjekter bl.a. ReFish, Lakserase). Kartlegge vannkvalitetskrav for ørret under prosessen mot bedret vannkvalitet pga. mindre sur nedbør (NFR prosjektet ANC-RECOVERY). Utvikler model for reetablering av ørret (NFR prosjekt FIB (Fisk I Bedring)).
Vannkvalitets kriterier for fisk i oppdrett (ferskvann og sjøvann), optimalisering og risikovurderinger (VK 1999-2006, VK-Marin 2006-, BRØNNBÅT-prosjekter, NFR prosjekt på "Vintersår").
Studier av negative effekter av superoksygenering i intensivt oppdrett med fokus på biomarkører for avgiftning av frie radikaler (NFR prosjekter og FHF/NFR prosjekt på laks og NFR prosjekt på torsk).
Studier på effekter av radioaktivitet og fri radikaldannelse på fisk.
Bruk av vannkvalitetsdata for vurdering av sykdomsutbrudd, stressreaksjoner og dødelighet i fiskeoppdrett.
