M.Sc. thesis title: Organic Farming - a Means for Sustainable Agriculture

Presentation of the thesis:
Africa is the poorest of the continents and the one which has most frequently suffered from food shortages and famines. East African agricultural production is currently challenged by many Constraints. Some areas known for high productivity have been intensively cultivated; others are plagued by low soil fertility, poor access to resources such as water, infrastructure and markets. Both academics and policy makers consider organic farming as a solution for many of the problems facing agriculture and to ensure food security for the growing population (Lampkin 2002, Madeley 2002). 1 - Is organic farming a means for sustainability of small-scale agriculture? 2 - Does organic farming insure food security at the family, community and national
level? The research will examine the case of Uganda to address these important issues.

I was born on 14. December. 1968 grew up and studied until the end of high school in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. After completing my tertiary education I moved to Jimma - the land of coffee. I was there employed by Jimma University College of Agriculture since my graduation in 1989, and I have got a good work experience in teaching and research.
