General information on the research area:
Web technology is currently the primary IT platform for cooperation
technology, i.e. the set of technologies supporting cooperative work. Cooperative
Web-based applications have made possible, e.g. thanks to increased connectivity
and dramatically reduced installation and training costs, new forms of
cooperative work among distributed teams, both inside and between organizations.
This is arising a new series of challenges at the practical, conceptual,
technological, and methodological level. In particular, research is needed
in order to fully understand and support cooperative
work, learning
and evolution in communities of practices. This requires
to integrate the Web with new interaction devices to make computation
ubiquitous,
nomadic and accessible to everybody, but also to rethink the
services that cooperation technology provides.
