General information on the research area:
The research covers both evaluation of systems and services with respect to:

reliability - ability to provide continued delivery of service
availability - ability to provide service when required, and
safety - ability to avoid catastrophic events

as well a means to achieve dependable systems and services as fault-tolerance, network protection and restoration, software quality and development process assurance etc.

The current focus is towards autonomous provision of application dependent dependability in middelware and networks. This is acheived by dynamic replication management in group communication systems, and the use of "swarm intelligence" to achieve adaptivity and robustness of fault management and service provision.

There are a broad cross disciplinary co-operation between milieus at NTNU dealing with related issues. NTNU is a Marie Curie training site within Reliability, Safety and Security.
