TEACHER EDUCATION
PPU – PRACTICAL PEDAGOGICAL EDUCATION
Practical Pedagogical Education (PPU) educates teachers for the higher grades of elementary school and secondary school and higher education.
Target groups: Students with university degrees, college background or with vocational experience. The study consists of 30 credits (ECTS) worth
of pedagogical studies, and 30 credits (ECTS) of methodology. (educational methods within the chosen subjects) Integrated into the study is 12
weeks of teaching practise.
The study counts for 60 credits (ECTS) as an addition to a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree, and it can be taken as a full time study over 1
year or as a part time study over 2 years.
PPU can also be combined with other academic or vocational studies offered at Østfold College.

ORGANISATION OF THE STUDIES OFFERED WITHIN PPU
The PPU study is offered both as a full time study over 1 year and as a part time study over 2 years. It is also offered as a distance study over 2 years.
THE FULL TIME STUDY is organised with class activities and gatherings on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, whereas Mondays and
Fridays are used for self studies. The teaching practise is divided into 5 weeks in the autumn term and 7 weeks in the spring term.
THE PART TIME STUDY is organised in 11 assemblies (hole weeks) in the beginning, in the middle and in the end of every term. The Teaching practise for the part time study is divided into 5 weeks in the spring term the first year and 7 weeks in the autumn term the second year.
THE DISTANCE STUDY is a combination of instruction through internet, E-mail and gatherings. The practise teaching will be given in the students’local environment.
GENERAL AND ECONOMIC/ADMINISTRATIVE SUBJECTS
This education is for those with a higher academic degree (Bachelor of Arts or Science, Master of Arts, Bachelor of Politics, Bachelor of Commerce
or equivalents) or with people with 150 credits from higher education, one 60 credits course and one 90 credits course.
PPU offers methodology courses within most of the subjects that are mandatory within the educational system
Methodology is normally organised as 5 credit courses within two subjects.
VOCATIONAL EDUCATION
This teacher education is offered to students with craft certificate or corresponding vocational education. Students with such a background need two
years’ theoretical vocational education in addition.
The study is also meant for students with a professional college education, as for instance engineers, nurses, registered nurses, professional social
workers and others. Requirements for admittance are as follow:
a) 3 years’ college education as mentioned above, plus 2 years’ vocational practise.
b) Craft certificate/3 years’ higher education plus theoretical education, or two craft certificates plus two years’ vocational practise.
Vocational didactics (methodology) is offerd within all the different studies found within secondary school. (30 credits). The pedagogical part
corresponds to the one for general teachers. (30 credits).
