Subject: Product and system design

Credits: 10 ECTS

Target Audience:  2. year students – MSc Product and system design

Prerequisites: Product family design and Machinery systems

Objectives:

Strategic thinking in design and maintenance of a product assortment.

In depth understanding and skills in system engineering. To be able to initiate, plan and execute system projects. Multi discipline approach and use of computer support systems.

Topics:

1.      System synthesis

• Project planning and project management
• Design for function, reliability, production, cost, etc. Life phase analysis.
• Configuration and architecture.

2.      System simulation

• System modelling, simulation and analyses.
• Technical documentation, product data, structure and format, PDM tools.
• Risk evaluation and analyses

Instructions:

Lectures, exercises and mandatory project work.

Mandatory assignments:

The project work is mandatory. Minimum 2/3 of the exercises have to be approved.  

Evaluation:  Project work.

Grades: A – F where the grade F represents failure.
