ECTS Course Catalogue

Up to now our course catalogue is only available in Norwegian. We have, however, translated some parts into English. This will be available through international office and the different faculties. The 2008 ECTS Course Catalogue will include the following information:
Volda University College
Faculties, academic staff and study programmes
Individual course units
General information for students
Additional information for incoming exchange students
Main university regulations
Links to useful information on education in Norway.
Through the information about the institution we will be trying to give a quick overview of Volda University College, including contact addresses, academic calendar, authorities and administrative procedures and regulations. The course catalogue will contain comments on the study programmes as a whole sorted by faculty. Study programme descriptions will contain an overview of all courses (modules) which make up the programme. All students within a normal study plan will find this type of overview for their class. The course descriptions will also be indexed by course title or course code. It should also be underlined that the vast majority of individual course units are taught in Norwegian, but that the number of English-taught courses is increasing with the intention of attracting foreign exchange students and thereby internationalising Volda University College. Please check out the individual course descriptions for information on the language of instruction.
Course descriptions
The course descriptions will contain information about the number of credits (student workload), pre-requisites, objective, course contents, year of study, mode of instruction, language of instruction, evaluation methods etc. Course literature will not usually mentioned in the course descriptions. This information is given at the beginning of the semester or is available on request. Please note that a full workload is 30 ects credits per semester, 60 ects credits per academic year.
It should also be noted that all credits used in the course descriptions and course diagrams are ECTS credits allocated in accordance with the ECTS guidelines.
Where a pre-requisite is listed, this is defined as a passed exam in the subjects listed as pre-requisites. Recommended pre-requisites means that the subject builds on material given in the pre-requisites listed, but a passed exam is not required. In general, it is assumed that students will follow the progression of the study programme even though this is not specified in every individual course description.
Sections about evaluation methods contain information both about examination requirements, i.e. requirements to be met in order to take the exam, and the type of evaluation on which the grade will be based. Examination requirements are usually various types of student work within the relevant course.
Unless otherwise stated in the course descriptions, the grades A-F are used (see below).
