Chea's Great Kuarao

Title: Chea's Great Kuarao

Authors: Hviding, Edvard; Scott, Rolf; Tollefsen, Trygve

Abstract: The people of Chea village, centrally located in the great Marovo Lagoon of the western Solomon Islands in the South Pacific, organize annual communal fishing expeditions called kuarao, in which the entire village community takes part. Early in the morning a large circle of bush vines is laid out in the lagoon waters near the barrier reef. As people swim with the vines and drag them along, large numbers of fish caught by surprise inside the gradually narrowing circle are herded together, until finally a tightly packed mass of fish can be stunned with a plant poison and collected in canoes. The kuarao of the Solomon Islands, as exemplified in this film about the efforts of Chea villagers in September 1996, serves as a powerful linkage between ancestral traditions, customary ownership of the sea, and surplus production for modern cash needs.
"Chea's Great Kuarao" is based on the long-term work of anthropologist Edvard Hviding in the Marovo Lagoon. The film arises from a collaborative project which since 1996 has involved the Norwegian documentary film company SOT Film, the University of Bergen, Solomon Islands National Museum, the Western Province of Solomon Islands, and the Marovo Area Council.
The very special involvement of Chea Village Community and the Babata Tribe in the making of this film is gratefully acknowledged.

Mimesis and Desire : An Analysis of the Religious Nature of Mimesis and Desire in the works of René Girard

Title: Mimesis and Desire : An Analysis of the Religious Nature of Mimesis and Desire in the works of René Girard

Authors: Grande, Per Bjørnar

Abstract: The main assumption in Mimesis and Desire. An Analysis of the Religious Nature of Mimesis and Desire in the Work of René Girard is that religion is motivated by mimesis. Mimesis is the foundation of Girardian theory. It is also primary to violence and scapegoating, and engenders both phenomena. Mimesis is the tool by which the religious and anthropological themes may be explained. If Girard’s theory should reveal its total character, the starting point should be mimetic desire. If sacrifice is seen to be the origin of religion, religion will be limited to violence only.

The objection against Girard’s religious theory is that mimesis leads into many other forms than sacrifice. When Girard claims that ”mimetic desire is simply a term more comprehensive than violence for religious pollution,” many religious and cultural forms engendered by mimesis are omitted.

If violence and mimesis becomes identical, the theory loses its flexibility in order to analyse a wider range of cultural phenomena. Mimesis is the tool by which the religious and anthropological themes may be explained. Religion does not begin with sacrifice, but with mimesis or imitation. If sacrifice is seen to be the origin of religion, religion will be limited to violence only. Among scholars on Girardian theory violence and sacrifice seems to have been overexposed on behalf of mimesis. This means that many mimetic phenomena which are non-violent are considered in a lesser degree.

To understand mimesis as the main motivator in forming culture, means, initially, that it is detached from violence. Thus, one can more clearly see religion as engendered my mimesis. However, mimesis can lead to many forms other than scapegoating. Violence and mimesis are not necessarily one and the same. In fact, mimesis does not have to contain any violence at all.

The fundamental core in Girard’s religious views is found in a mimetically based christology. As Girard's anthropology requires a christology Grande concludes that mimetic theory is founded on religious belief. Interpreting the theory as starting with mimesis and ending in a mimesis of Christ, reveals that it is fundamentally religious and fundamentally mimetic. As Girard’s theory is worked out from christological reflections and driven by a Christian belief, mimetic theory, ultimately, combines a modern, rational version of a Christian anthropology with a missionary strategy.

Title: Elevtekster i digitale læringsomgivelser

Authors: Schwebs, Ture

Abstract: The article presents findings from the testing of eLogg, a primary and secondary school learning environment based on the principles of weblogs and wikis. Most students demonstrated extended digital literacy proficiency, producing collaborative, hypertextual and multimodal writings. The texts were compared to texts written within a traditional learning management system. The LMS does not encourage open and collaborative texts, while eLogg made the texts more «visible» by letting the students write for a real audience.

Title: Strategies and tactics in education: influence on the design of eLogg

Authors: Hoem, Jon

Abstract: In search for a more diverse understanding of miscellaneous “learning strategies” this paper discusses what Michel de Certeau call strategies and tactics. To make the educators’ strategies and the learner’s tactics come closer I argue that the principles of personal publishing, known from weblogs, provide useful approaches to the design of virtual learning environments.

Title: Teknisk verktøy eller didaktisk virkemiddel; noen reflekterende betraktninger rundt IKT

Authors: Hinna, Kristin; Hole, Grete Oline

For å nevne
system støtte opp under studentenes læringsprosesser. Dette begrepet har
      vi valgt å bruke fremover.
