Jungbusch i endring: byplanlegging som integreringstiltak

Title: Jungbusch i endring: byplanlegging som integreringstiltak
<br/>
<br/>Authors: Drangsland, Kari Anne Klovholt
<br/>
<br/>Abstract: In Norwegian and West-European urban planning, the tendency can be observed that urban social planning increasingly is seen, and used, as an instrument of social integration measures. This paper examines what happens when the discourse of social integration is embedded in an urban planning discourse, and integration measures take the form of spatial organisation at the neighbourhood level.

My empirical outset is the urban development process in the neighbourhood of Jungbusch in Mannheim, Germany. This development has two main goals; on the one hand its aim is to improve the living conditions and social integration in the neighbourhood. On the other hand the city of Mannheim wants to make the area attractive to the “creative economy”. To examine this process I employ a Lefebvrian approach to planning. I explore what discourses are hidden under the heading of “social planning”, when it is articulated as aiming at social integration.

The urban development of Jungbusch can be seen as a process of “planning diversity”. The paper also researches the limits to this planned multicultural diversity and asks: to what extent is this planned diversity in Jungbusch a “commodification of diversity” or a “politics of difference”?

A System Dynamics Based Study of Policies on Reducing Energy Use and Energy Expense for Chinese Steel Industry

Title: A System Dynamics Based Study of Policies on Reducing Energy Use and Energy Expense for Chinese Steel Industry
<br/>
<br/>Authors: Longbin, Zheng
<br/>
<br/>Abstract: Chinese steel industry is one of the energy intensive industries in China. Coal and electricity
are the two main energy sources for steel making. Steel industry in China is experiencing its
transition period because of economy transition during the industrialization period. Steel
demand has increased significantly in recent years, which correspondingly enlarges the
energy demand. On the other hand, energy prices of coal and electricity have been increasing
dramatically since 1980 because of the macro-control from the government. Large energy
demand leads to high energy consumption and high energy price raises the energy expense of
steel making.
Motivated by the need to reduce energy use and energy expense, a System Dynamics based
model is built to investigate policies in order to help Chinese steel industry ease energy
problems during its transition period. The model helps to foster learning about a dynamically
complex system, and thus contributes to a better understanding on the effectiveness, validity
of energy policies. Results show that most of the investigated policy options are cost-effective.
However, implementation remains a critical issue, the viability of energy tax and R&D
subsidy is still questionable in the real world. Developing the technology of recycling
scrapped steel is found to be useful in limiting carbon emission with comparatively easy
implementation.

Rekonstruksjon av isutbreiing gjennom Weichsel i Grimsdalen, nordlige Rondane

Title: Rekonstruksjon av isutbreiing gjennom Weichsel i Grimsdalen, nordlige Rondane
<br/>
<br/>Authors: Klette, Jostein
<br/>
<br/>Abstract: East-central southern Norway has for a long time been of interest for studying past ice-divides and ice sheet geometry of the ice sheets through the last glacial cycle. The existence of cold based non-erosive ice sheets here preserve landforms through several glaciations and make this area suitable for reconstructing earlier glacial stages. The aim of this master thesis is to reconstruct the glacial history of the Grimsdalen area through the last glacial cycle.

The area shows few signs of glacial erosion because the ice sheets covering the area have been cold-based and non-erosive. The many glacio-fluvial accumulation- and erosion forms indicate a vertical downwasting of cold based and dynamically dead ice sheets. Periglacial features are common and well developed, which indicate that the area has been subaerialy exposed for longer time periods in a colder climate than at present.

Dating of landforms using Optical Stimulated Luminscence (OSL) and exposure dating made it possible to give the different landforms absolute ages and to relate them to stadials through the Weichselian. During the deglaciation after the Saalian a large glaciofluvial fan was deposited in the central parts of Grimsdalen. This shows that there have been no warm based glaciers here during the Weichselian. The lack of dates from the Early- and Middle Weichselian make it difficult to reconstruct the glacial extent through these periods.

Large marginal moraines in Gautådalen mark the Late Glacial Maximum (LGM) in the area showing a restricted vertical extent of the ice sheet during this period. The ice sheet was lying in the valleys north, west and east of the field area whereas parts of Grimsdalen were ice free during LGM. Meltwater channels show drainage from northwest and southwest into Grimsdalen indicating several domes. The fieldwork done in Grimsdalen suggests a thin and multidomed ice sheet with the existence of ice free areas throughout large parts of the Weichselian.

<br/>
<br/>Authors: Lund, Tina Marie
<br/>
<br/>Abstract: The masters thesis “construction of ethnic identity, strategy or value?” discusses the main problems of migration in two small local villages in Manang-valley, Nepal. In all societies and all cultures people have to relate to different types of people. The relationship between place and identity, and place and ethnicity are emphasized. A distinction is drawn between two understandings of identity and ethnicity: an essentialist or primordial conception and a constructivist or instrumental conception. The primordial conception is stating a natural form for ethnic groups, based on a common culture and common past and future. The instrumental conception is stating that ideas of culture and traditions are used as a strategy for gaining political or economic advantages.

In the Manang- valley we can identify one ethnic group: Nyeshang. The ethnic group has the same culture, the same language and a common present and future. Still we can identify two different ways of ascribing the group. In Manang village we find that people use the ethnic group to protect the natural resources such as land for agriculture and land for hotels and other facilities. Therefore we recognise an instrumental form for ethnicity. In Ghyaro village we find that people base the ethnic group on a natural form, stating that anyone can become a part of the ethnic group, as long as they follow the rules and norms characteristic to the group. But why is ethnicity in Manang more protectionist than in Ghyaro? To explain this statement, we have to bring place and space in to the discussion. In this paper, place is used as a social construction. This implies that place is formed by people, including the meaning people gives to place, and also the way people form place physically. When people ask who we are, it is often related to where we are. The ideas, believes, behaviour and values that is produced in a place is reproduced through ideology. Places are constantly changing and the social constructions in place decide what the place should contain. Ethnic groups can therefore not be seen as homogenised, as either instrumental or primordial, but as a construction of place and meaning.

Evaluering av lokal forvaltning i Fitjarøyane

Title: Evaluering av lokal forvaltning i Fitjarøyane
<br/>
<br/>Authors: Thoresen, Kjartan
<br/>
NOU 1986: 13 ”Ny landsplan
Fitjar kommune fekk i 1992
(St.meld. nr. 62, 1991-92) godkjent Kommunedelplan 1989-1997 for Øyane som eit alternativ
Strukturelle
endringar i kystlandskapet dei seinare åra utgjer eit viktig poeng i teorikapittelet. Metodisk
Samstundes ser me at det fins døme på gode, men spreidde tiltak
for å ta vare på verdiane.
